Welcome to the New York Metro Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication

STC NY Metro Call for 2019-2020 Board Nominations

Nominations are now open for the 2019-2020 Board of the New York Metro Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC). The Board works on behalf of our members to set the direction for the chapter. Please consider nominating a colleague or yourself for an elected Board position, and join a group of dedicated and enthusiastic professionals who care about the future of technical communication. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, June 7. The new Board will be installed in July and will serve throughout the following year.

What's in it for me?

Uniting behind a shared purpose and stepping outside of your job role to volunteer and serve others offers the opportunity to learn and grow professionally. Serving on the STC NY Metro Board can be a great way to:

  • Expand your project management and leadership skills in a supportive environment with professional peers
  • Network and make connections within the local tech comm community
  • Deepen your knowledge of the profession and emerging trends in tech comm tools and practices
  • Give back to the STC NY Metro Chapter, the larger Society, and the profession as a whole

What roles are open?

We will elect the following positions:

  • President: Responsibilities include supervising chapter operations, preparing and submitting non-financial reports to the Society office, and performing other tasks as required. The estimated time commitment for this role is 4-5 hours per month.
  • First/Second/Third Vice President: Responsibilities may include chairing a committee or performing other duties as requested by the President or Board. A Vice President also may temporarily assume the duties of the President in their absence or incapacity. The estimated time commitment for this role is 2-3 hours per month.
  • Treasurer: Responsibilities include keeping auditable financial records for the chapter, preparing and submitting an annual budget to the Board and Society office, maintaining the chapter bank account, and preparing and submitting financial reports as required. The estimated time commitment for this role is 2-3 hours per month.
  • Secretary: Responsibilities include taking and posting minutes of chapter business meetings, preparing official non-financial correspondence, and maintaining official non-financial records of the chapter. The estimated time commitment for this role is 1-2 hours per month.

We are seeking candidates for all positions, but especially for Second and Third Vice President. Chapter bylaws permit the election of up to three Vice Presidents; however, the bylaws do not mandate "presidential succession" in which individuals automatically move up through the ranks of Third VP to President.
