Technical Publications, Online Communication,
Technical Art Competitions
Are you interested in knowing if your work measures up against local,
regional and international technical writing?
Have you completed a manual, tutorial, or some other technical
communication that represents your best work - something especially
creative, unique, effective, or comprehensive of which you are
particularly proud?
Have you developed web-based training or a help system, or created
a sophisticated technical diagram or illustration?
The STC Annual Competition is the place you can compete for awards,
win the admiration of your peers, and impress your managers and clients!

Submission Guidelines
- Entries must be received by Oct-24-2007
Submit three (3) copies of your entry and attach a copy of the
2007 NY Metro Chapter Competition Entry Form to each copy.
- Send Entries to the Chapter Competition Manager:

- Cost:
- $75 for members; $85 for non-members; $25 for students
- Attach your entry fee to the third copy of the entry form.
- If a product is enter into more than one competition, the fee must
be paid for each entry.
- Make Checks Payable to STC-NY Metro
- Entries Must:
- Contain sufficient technical, scientific, medical, or similar content
to qualify as technical communication
- Have been produced or substantially revised within the 24 months
preceding September 1, 2007
- Have been originally prepared for and accepted for publication
by a client, employer, or publisher
Note: The Competition Manager reserves the right to disqualify entries that do not meet these guidelines.
Competition Categories
- Technical Publications Accepts physical media entries such as:
- Books
- Brochures
- Other paper-based publications
- Online Communications Accepts entries that depend on a
computer or similar device for viewing such as:
- Computer-based training
- Online documentation/demonstrations
- Help systems
- Simple-text retrieval systems
- Multi-media information
- Web pages (Web entries are judged as they exist on the day of judging)
- Technical Art Accepts graphics used for:
- Physical media (Physical media includes products mounted for viewing or
included in a book, brochure, or other type of paper-based application.)
- Online entries (Online entries must be integrated into a viewer application,
not dependent on the design package used to create them.)
Important: All online entries must run on PC, Macintosh, or Web platforms.
If your entry runs on another platform or special equipment you must provide any
specialized hardware or software at your own expense to the judging location.
If you send compressed files, please send self-extracting files.
Call for Judges
We are looking for people to judge the entries submitted to our chapter’s Art,
Publications and Online competitions. Participating as a judge allows you to see
what your peers are producing. You will also have the opportunity to share your
knowledge and experience by providing constructive feedback.

Judges Registration Form.
