June Meeting Announcement
NY Metro STC

 Summer Social

Date: Tuesday, June 22, 2010
Location: Battery Gardens, Inside Battery Park
Time: Registration and networking starts @ 6:00 pm

On Tuesday, June 22, the STC New York Metro Chapter will close the program year with a special social and recognition ceremony at Battery Gardens in Battery Park. The evening will include networking, hors d'oeurves and finger food, and an open bar. Please join us for a night of food, drinks and mingling with a great view of the New York Harbor.

Steven Jong, Chairman of the STC Certification Committee, will be speaking about certification for technical communicators. Steve states that "STC certification for technical communicators will be a reality this year." Cindy Currie announced this in the recently concluded STC Summit last May 1-5. The Certification Committee has been working on the issue for over three years, and Steven will be coming to our chapter meeting in June to present the status of the effort and answer your questions.

Come to the meeting, listen and let your VOICE be heard!

We will also have a short presentation from SDL on Author Assist. SDL empowers authors with technology that assists the authoring process. By providing access to terminology and translation memory from within the authoring environment, content can be automatically checked against these assets at the time it is being written. Authors can assess recommendations made by the technology on how to modify content to improve the use of terminology and where previously written content can be reused. SDL's mission is to help corporations drive global brand consistency and accelerate time-to-market by providing software and services to manage the delivery of all corporate information into different languages.

In addition, several of our members recently attended the STC Conference in Dallas and will be sharing their experiences and what they learned; and, as we have come to the end of the year, then new board will be introduced.
