Hello from the desert dweller!
Just a quick note to wish everyone a very happy New Year. I hope that 2014 brings us all health, and happy days. I'm putting my head around the idea that it's just another day as I have worked all through Christmas and New Year holidays. I get Friday and Saturday off - and everything is closed on Fridays up until night time, because it is their observed holy day. The mosques are full, and the call to prayer goes out five times a day.
I spent the last few days working on chemical and mathematical equations, that I had frankly long forgotten. My eyeballs are red and tired by the end of the work day. Mixing Greek letters, symbols, numbers and letters does my head in. Still, I'm getting paid for my efforts, and I'm glad to have the opportunity. I'm working on some engineering materials relating to drilling oil wells. Fascinating subject. I actually enjoy the scientific part of it, but you can stuff the logarithms.
It's a good thing I didn't set any high expectations and I have not been disappointed, if you get my drift. This has been the driest holiday season of my life, and not just because I'm in the desert. I think by mid January I'll be itching to get out of the Kingdom and visit Bahrain or somewhere else. In the midst of the desert, everything is the same color - the sand, buildings, horizon. There are not really landmarks as we think of them so I'm still in a bit of a daze.
Couldn't be bothered dealing with another blah dinner at the cafeteria, so I just fired up the electric kettle to boil some water for my instant noodles. I read the label and realize I am eating "GOUT CURRY" noodles. It also comes with "BUMBU SAUCE". Doesn't really sound very appetizing does it? I'm a brave girl. Ha ha! Didn't taste too bad actually, though I'll probably be gasping for water all night.
