Use the following activities towards your next Scholar Badge


Attend workshop:

Attend a full-day chapter workshop or two half-day chapter workshops.

Present at a chapter event:

Have knowledge to share? Prepare your slides and become a chapter presenter. Use the feedback from you fellow members to improve your presentation before you present at a conference such as the STC Summit.

Serve as a TaP expert:

Share your experience for one hour in a mentoring session with a newcomer interested in your profession.

Form a chapter specialty sub-group:

Interested in a specific area, for example, Rapid eLearning, Translation, Plain Language?  Get together a group of fellow enthusiasts and hold at least three meetings during the activity year. We'll help with publicity and locations.

Like our Facebook page:

Like us on Facebook to keep up with chapter announcements, and share fun posts, questions, and comments.

Join our Meetup:

Join our Meetup group.

Post on our Facebook page:

Start or contribute to a substantive discussion about the chapter, technical communication, or related topics.

Post on LinkedIn:

Start or contribute to a substantive discussion about the chapter or about technical communications in our LinkedIn group or post on another group about a chapter event.

Tweet about us:

Tweet about the chapter or chapter events. Remember to mention @stcnymetro.

Post on our Meetup about a chapter event and rate it:

Rate our events on Meetup, and discuss them with others to help us spread the word about NY Metro activities. Start or contribute to a substantive discussion about a chapter event.

Use these activities towards your next Blogger Badge


Post on our Members' Blog:

For example, an article about the chapter, an event, a review of an event, technical communications, or related topics. Send articles to President@stcnymetro.net.

Promote us:

Promote us elsewhere, link back to our site, and let us know. For example:

  • E-mail event notices to others and encourage them to attend.
  • Post about us somewhere other than the listed social media sites. Remember to include a link back to our site.

Host an event:

Host a networking event or Specialty Sub-Group meeting. For example, host a networking event at a business, bar, restaurant, or home; or host a group of people in your area (NJ, CT, etc.) to watch together remotely one of our webinars.

Take pictures at an event and send them to us.

Bring food to an event.

What badges can I collect?

Accumulate sets of activities to achieve badges. You earn the points for the activities plus you earn 5 bonus points for each badge that you achieve.

  • Attend two full day or four half-day chapter workshops.
  • Present at a chapter event.
  • Serve twice as a TaP expert.
  • Form a chapter specialty sub-group and hold three meetings in a year on the common interest.
Social Media Badge

Do any combination of five of these:
  • Like our Facebook page.
  • Join our Meetup.
  • Post on our Facebook page.
  • Post on LinkedIn.
  • Tweet about the chapter or chapter events.
  • Post on our Meetup about a chapter event and rate it.
Blogger Badge

Do any combination of two of these:
  • Write a post or article for our Member's Blog.
  • Promote us elsewhere, link back to our site, and let us know.
Sustaining Member Badge
Sustaining Member Badge
Join STC or renew your STC membership for two years in a row

and

Attend five chapter meetings or social/networking events

and

do any one of these:
  • Bring three non-member friends to events.
  • Respond to our yearly survey for two years in a row.
  • Respond to the post-event surveys for the chapter meetings that you attended to earn this badge.

What prizes can I get?

As you accumulate points and collect badges, you level up and earn prizes.

If you accumulate points that do not earn you badges, you are still eligible for prize giveaways throughout the year. More points, more recognition.

What's the fine print?

If you find that your quest is missing points, badges, or prizes, report it.

Offer void where prohibited. Must be 18 or older to play. Take only as directed. Judges' decisions are final. Senior discount only applies on Wednesdays and only for those who are wearing yellow socks.
