Scholarships

Beginning in 1979 the New York Metro Chapter started a program of annual writing contests for students, with monetary awards for excellence in technical communication. As of 1996 the program includes writing competitions at:

• Polytechnic University
• New York Institute of Technology
• New Jersey Institute of Technology
• NY Academy of Sciences (high school student papers)

The annual awards for the four contests are given in US Savings Bonds and now total $6,200 funded jointly by our chapter and the schools. The entries are judged by school faculty and STC members.

The purpose of this program is to stimulate an interest in the STC among high school and college students, to present awards to deserving students, and to establish a cooperative relationship with the schools in the New York metropolitan area. The chapter issues a press release for announcement in local papers of the results of each writing contest.
